Known issues

  • If you have downloaded the SML to your PC and some of the media icons are missing or the menus do not load, you should reinstall the SML user interface
  • If your playback controls do not work while viewing windows videos, upgrade the Windows Media Player.
  • If you get blank list boxes or an infinite "loading" message in the list box area, you should reinstall the SML user interface
  • If you upgraded to Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may get a blank list box when you run the SML on Internet Explorer. By default, SP2 blocks active content from running on your computer. To enable active content, consult Help on Internet Explorer.
  • As of January, 2005, the SML uses a product hierarchy (category, family and series) that conforms to the product hierarchy used across HP.
    • Some series or families may change location in the hierarchy.
    • If you previously downloaded product media from the SML site to your local system, you will find that the old and new product hierarchies may be intermixed. Old products are listed under the old hierarchy and new products are listed under the new hierarchy. If you find this confusing, remove the old products and download them again. Downloading the product media again places them into the new location in the hierarchy.
    • If you installed the SML to its default location, remove products by selecting:
Start –> All Programs –> HP Services Media Library –> Remove Product
  • If you have a problem installing downloaded media (.msi) files and you see this error:

you will need to run this .msi file as administrator. On some systems, this option is not automatically available. Our IT team has prepared a program that will allow users to run and install the .msi file as administrator. Please click here to download a .zip file containing an executable and instructions for use.

    1. Unzip the two files and run the .exe file according to the directions.
    2. Right-click on the downloaded Product Media .msi file that originally gave you the error and select "run as administrator".

The product media should install and the local copy of the SML will open with the new product media listed.

  • If you are having playback issues with some Remove/Replace videos and see this animated icon but video does not play - Instructions for Internet Explorer
